ASK THE EXPERTS
Christopher Joiner, Director of Design for WCI Communities
The architecture of Westshore Yacht Club is inspired by the variety of styles found throughout the historic neighborhoods of South Tampa. Chris Joiner and his design team are the creative minds behind the unique floorplans and exteriors offered in our community. Having lived in South Tampa for more than 10 years, Chris appreciated the eclectic mix of architecture and understood how such diversity comes together to create a strong sense of place. The team identified the dominant elements that contribute to the charm of South Tampa’s neighborhoods - tree-lined sidewalks, pocket parks, front porches, porte cocheres and garages that are moved back from the street. Together these elements create Westshore Yacht Club’s beautiful streetscapes and unique identity.
The design team was challenged with creating architectural solutions that satisfied the needs of today’s sophisticated buyer while responding harmoniously to the context of South Tampa. They incorporated historic floorplan designs such as the center-hall and four-square plans as a respectful reference to early 20th century Tampa homes. The end results showcase a casual elegance found in enchanting parlors, spacious living areas and dynamic architectural appointments.
SPOTLIGHT ON TAMPA HISTORY
Castillo – Luxury Tower Namesake
The legend of Diego Castillo is the name behind Westshore Yacht Club's first luxury tower and is an intriguing story. Legend has it that well-known pirates Jose Gaspar and Diego Castillo were each traveling to the Tampa Bay area for their planned invasion of this fair city when they anchored on the western shore of Tampa to await the early morning attack. Castillo and his crew stayed awake to watch the remarkable Tampa sunset and marveled at the wondrous sight in front of them. Diego decided to forego the invasion and staked his claim on this piece of land on the western shore of Tampa, now home to Westshore Yacht Club. In homage to Diego Castillo and his vision, we proudly pay tribute with our first tower residence at Westshore Yacht Club, Castillo.
AHOY! DID YOU KNOW...
What safety equipment is required tobe present on a boat? One life jacket for every person on-board and a whistle are required to be on the boat at all times during boating operation. It is also a good idea to have a flashlight, first-aid kit, blankets, extra lines and a mirror in case of emergency. Don’t forget to let someone know where you’ll be going and when you plan on returning so that they’ll know when and where to look for you, should you not return on time.
